Partnering with Chelsea Heights Elementary

Peace Awards at Chelsea Heights Elementary

In continuing Como Park Lutheran Church’s partnership with Chelsea Heights Elementary School, on Wednesday, May 25, four 6th grade students were given Peace Awards, along with a $25 gift card to Target (through a designation from the Como Park Lutheran Trust Fund). The award is meant to acknowledge and lift up those students who have a spirit of caring for their neighbors and those around them. The winners are:

Christine Siebels-Lindquist           Trenton Phillippi
Joe McCune-Zierath                      Rachel Ruskin

The students were nominated by their teachers and given their certificate and gift card during an Awards Ceremony in front of all of the 4th-6th graders. Pr. Marty, Intern John, and Youth Director Jerod were present to thank these students for their service. The criteria that the teachers based their nominations on were students who show tolerance, respect, and inclusiveness towards members of the classroom or visitors to the class, who exhibit behavior of helping others regularly, and often serve as peace maker when two opposite sides are present. They also generally show high moral character and know the difference between right and wrong. CPLC is very proud of these four students and wish them well in their move to middle school next year!

Our Saviour's Shelter

Feeding the Homeless: Our Saviour’s Shelter

Did you know Como Park Lutheran has been serving meals to the homeless at OUR SAVIOUR’S Housing in Minneapolis for the past fifteen years? We serve up to forty homeless men and women the third Sunday of every other month (Feb, April, June, Aug, Oct, Dec). The residents of OUR SAVIOUR’S are working and saving money to get a place of their own. The normal length of stay is thirty days. Your Social Concerns Committee is always looking for individuals or groups (such as circles, committees or a few friends) to provide a hot dish and/or help serve the meal.

If you would like to help, please call Sue Brogger at 651.646.7127, ext. 203, or any member of the Social Missions Committee.
